Doraemon

Doraemon is a blue robot cat sent from the twenty-second century to look after a boy named Nobita. Created by Fujiko F. Fujio, the manga and later anime treat gadgets as both wish fulfillment and slapstick: a pocket that produces the exact tool you wanted, and the exact trouble you deserved.

The design is a circle with a white bib, a red collar, and a bell. Ears are missing — a backstory gag that also makes the silhouette unique. Children across Japan, and later much of Asia, could draw him from memory in a few curves.

He stands with the Western stars because cartoon fame is not a single country’s export. Doraemon’s face is civic in Japan, familiar in classrooms from Tokyo to Mumbai, and proof that a kind robot can be as durable as a wisecracking rabbit. The lesson is the same as Felix’s: keep the shape simple, and let the inventions do the running around.
